Video: Wyndham Championship first round postponed to Friday; water floods course

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The first round of the Wyndham Championship has been postponed until Friday due to Tropical Storm Debby, the PGA Tour confirmed.

Video from the course shows severe flooding impacting Par 3 Hole No. 7 as a couple of creeks are merging and causing water to overflow onto the fairway.

This is the third setback at Wyndham that has been brought about by the severe weather.

Initially, the decision was made to not allow fans on Sedgefield Country Club grounds on Thursday due to weather. However, there were still plans to tee off at 6:50 a.m. Thursday morning.

Those plans were setback by the heavy rainfall that came into the region Thursday morning and the decision was made to postpone the tee time until 3 p.m. at the earliest.

At around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, the PGA Tour announced on X that the first round will be postponed until Friday.

New start times for the first round will be updated later.

“This decision was a difficult one for us to make with our partners at the PGA TOUR, but everyone’s safety is our top priority,” Tournament Director Bobby Powell said of the decision to not allow fans to be on the grounds. “The most recent forecast looks like the storm could clear our area sometime Friday.”
