A High Point family mourns Michael Issac Jr., killed in a hit-and-run while biking. Police seek a red Chevrolet Silverado driver and offer a $5,000 reward for tips.
HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point family is grieving the loss of Michael Issac Jr., killed in a deadly hit-and-run while riding his bike on Nov. 10.
His sister said he was just minutes away from home and talking to a friend on the phone when tragedy struck.
“It was such a shock to all of us, nobody ever thought this would happen. When he left, we didn’t think he would never come back,” said Rhianna Swinney while wiping away tears.
Michael’s sister Rhianna said he was biking down West Martin Luther King Drive, talking to a friend on the phone, not knowing it would be the last time he pedaled down that road.
“His friend said that the phone just went, he heard like a buzzing noise, and then the phone just went dead and he kept calling him back and he didn’t get any answer. He was gone 5:47 and 17 seconds p.m.,” Swinney said.
Rhianna said her brother was a contractor and a family man. She said he could build any type of home and often helped fix things at her home. She said her good-hearted and kind brother’s life was unfairly cut short.
“He didn’t deserve to be left there like he was nothing, you know, he was, you took a good person from their family, you went home to your family that night he did not. We lost a, a very loving, caring person, a big part of our family,” Swinney said.
Police said the driver of a red Chevrolet Silverado is responsible. They’re asking for the driver to come forward, something Rhianna said Michael and his family deserve.
“Please just take accountability for what you did so that we can have the closure we need because the only thing I have left of my brother is flowers and an urn with his ashes. I will never have him back,” said Swinney.
Michael Issac Jr. was laid to rest last Saturday, according to his sister.
High Point police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 336-889-4000. Police said tipsters could receive up to $5,000 if their tip leads to an arrest.
