Cold front to bring temperatures in upper 40s Sunday to the Piedmont Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — After a windy day in the Triad, winds remain breezy tonight out of the north and northwest between 10 to 20 mph. Outdoor burning is still discouraged and proper disposal of cigarette butts and matches is strongly encouraged. A cold front moved through this afternoon, which is one reason for the breezy conditions and dry air. Temperatures will fall into the 40s by 9 p.m.

Skies will be clear overnight and temperatures will fall into the mid-20s by Sunday morning. We’ll see plenty of sunshine to end the weekend; however, thanks to Saturday’s cold front, our temperatures will remind us that it’s still technically winter. Afternoon highs reach the upper 40s.

Sunshine continues to dominate on Monday with morning lows in the mid-20s and highs in the low 50s.

Clouds return on Tuesday with partly to mostly cloudy skies, but temperatures will warm up. We’ll start the morning in the low to mid-30s with afternoon temperatures reaching the low 60s.

Our next weather maker arrives into Wednesday morning and will bring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms. Temperatures will start off in the mid-50s and will climb into the upper 60s. Not only are we talking about the potential for strong storms, with damaging winds and a low tornado threat, but it will also be generally windy throughout the day. Winds will be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph and non-thunderstorm wind gusts could reach 40+ mph. Make sure to secure outdoor items on Tuesday, before the storms and winds arrive Wednesday morning.

Winds will remain gusty on Thursday with northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. Skies will be partly cloudy with morning lows in the low 40s and highs in the low to mid-50s.

A mix of sun and clouds on Friday with morning lows in the mid-30s and highs reaching the low 60s. We’ll continue to see partly cloudy skies into the weekend with morning temperatures on Saturday in the low 40s and highs reaching the mid-60s. A low chance for rain returns on Saturday, as well as a 20% potential for showers.
