16-year-old shot, killed in Gastonia, police say

A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed in Gastonia on Christmas Eve, police said. 

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. along Barkley Street, not far from U.S. 321 and Interstate 85, north of downtown Gastonia. 

Investigators confirmed a 16-year-old girl was found dead when officers arrived. Gastonia Police detectives are searching the area for potential witnesses to the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made in the case. Detectives haven’t identified the victim at this time. 

Gastonia police are asking people to avoid the area while they investigate the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 704-866-6702 immediately.
