Woman says suspect in Greensboro Officer Michael Horan's murder was an Instacart shopper

She thought her shopper was possibly a witness of the shooting, but it turns out, he was the suspect.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro woman said the suspect in the murder of Greensboro Officer Michael Horan was her Instacart delivery driver.

A grocery store run turned deadly on Lawndale Drive on Monday, Dec. 23. Sheila Gonzalez said she ordered a few items from Food Lion through Instacart around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

She got a notification that she was assigned Tarell Isaac McMillian. Gonzalez said things seemed normal until there was an abrupt stop in the order.

“He started doing the shopping and when he was nearly finished, according to the app it took a very long time. I wasn’t getting any alerts then all of a sudden it said you’ve been canceled and reassigned to different shopper,” Gonzalez said.

Shortly after, Gonzalez said she got a notification on her phone about a shooting at the same Food Lion. At that point, she was concerned about safety.

“It was very alarming, it was scary. I had texted my husband that I think the Instacart shopper was at the Food Lion. We heard about the shooting later on. This morning, I received another alert about the person who was arrested,” Gonzalez said.

This morning, police identified McMillian as the shooter. Gonzalez said she put two and two together and is still trying to process what happened to the man who was supposed to deliver groceries to her home.

“It scared me foremost when you hear about the officer who didn’t have a chance to draw his weapon,” Gonzalez shared, “Immediately my mind went to if he’s willing to shoot an officer he’s obviously someone whose dangerous and violent and he was on his way to my home. It scared me because we have children.”

Gonzalez said her prayers are with Officer Horan’s family and the Greensboro Police Department.

Gonzalez said she now questions food delivery apps and will never use them again. WFMY News 2 has reached out to Instacart for a statement and is waiting for a response.
