(PINPOINT WEATHER) — High pressure has taken over for a few days, giving us lots of sun, but continued bitter cold temps! In the mountains, lingering wind will drop chills below zero.
Thursday morning looks to be the coldest, with actual lows dropping into the single digits in the higher elevations, with upper teens around the Charlotte area.
PINPOINT WEATHER ALERT FRIDAY & SATURDAY
All eyes are still on the next winter storm that’s set to impact more of the area starting Friday. It’s still too early to nail down exactly how much snow or ice may accumulate, but keep checking in for those updates in the next couple of days.
At this point, it’s looking like the brunt of the moisture will move through Friday late afternoon through Saturday morning. It may start as snow in most neighborhoods — perhaps ending the 1,000-plus-day snow drought in Charlotte — before transitioning to an icy mix of freezing rain with some sleet.
It last snowed in the area in Jan. 2022.
It may end with mostly cold rain, especially south and east of Charlotte. Saturday afternoon will be drier, but slick roads and sidewalks will linger into Sunday.
Sunday is the dry half of the weekend. Temperatures will stay cold again next week!
Tonight: Clear and frigid. Low 22.
Wednesday: Sunny and chilly. High 45.
