West Charlotte shooting under investigation

It’s unclear if a suspect is in custody.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was seriously injured in a shooting at a shopping center in west Charlotte on Friday, Medic said. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a reported shooting at the Freedom Village shopping center near the intersection of Freedom Drive and Alleghany Street around 1 p.m. Medic said one person was taken to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. 

WCNC Charlotte’s crew saw numerous CMPD officers outside of a Chase bank branch at the end of the shopping center. It’s unclear if a suspect was taken into custody or if the shooting was connected to the bank. Detectives haven’t released any further details on the incident at this time.
