SUGAR MOUNTAIN, N.C. — After at least 7 inches of snow fell on Sugar Mountain Friday morning which allowed the ski resort to officially open for the 2024-2025 season.
Sugar Mountain announced it had powered up the snow blowers ahead of the storm as the natural snow started to fall on Thursday.
Thanksgiving weekend is usually extremely busy in the North Carolina mountains. Also after the holiday, many people go up to the area to find their family a Christmas trees at the farms there. The ski resort encouraged people to do that this year.
“Visiting our local choose-and-cut Christmas tree farms, and holiday shopping is a fantastic way to enjoy the season while uplifting our local businesses after Hurricane Helene,” the Village of Sugar Mountain wrote on Facebook.
