Rockingham Co. siblings charged in check forgery case

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Rockingham County brother and sister are charged for forging checks. 

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced Friday the arrests of 24-year-old Dasani Khristyle Waddell and 19-year-old Aniya Tanaysha Waddell.

Both of them were charged with two counts of conspiracy. 

Aniya Waddell was charged with two counts of common law uttering, two counts of common law forgery and one count of obtaining property by false pretense. 

All charges are felonies. 

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Aniya Waddell deposited two forged checks styled to be from Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC to a First National Bank ATM. Waddell then withdrew cash from the account. Agents also charged Dasani Waddell as a co-conspirator in the case. 

The incident happened in May, according to arrest warrants. 

Aniya Waddell was arrested on Nov. 20 and released on a $5,000 secured bond. She is set to appear in Rockingham County District Court on Dec. 5. 

Dasani Waddell was also arrested on Nov. 20 and is currently being held in Rockingham County Jail. He is also set to appear in Rockingham County District Court on Dec. 5. 

“Forgeries and fraud such as this have become more and more commonplace,” Commissioner Causey said.
