Snow expected to hit the Triad on Friday night

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It will be a bitterly cold day, with highs in the mid-30s and wind chills in the 20s all day. Sunny skies are expected to stay uninterrupted until the late afternoon drive when scattered clouds will be swept across Piedmont. Skies will clear back out overnight and lows tomorrow morning will be near 20°.

Sunshine takes over again for Thursday, with highs in the mid-30s.

An area of low pressure is forecast to march across the northern Gulf of Mexico, then turn northeast to hug the coastlines of the Carolinas. The exact track is still rather uncertain, so the amount of precipitation is also uncertain. For now, we’ll be watching clouds increase through the day on Friday.

Highs will be around 34°. Near the afternoon/evening commute, precipitation will begin as light snow across the Piedmont.

We are expecting snow to continue through the evening before changing to mainly freezing rain after midnight. Precipitation will taper off close to sunrise on Saturday morning.

There will be moderate impacts from the wintry weather through the day on Saturday, then a continuing chance of black ice on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Saturday and Sunday will end up being sunny.  Highs on Saturday are going to stay in the mid-30s, then rise to the upper-30s on Sunday afternoon.

Sunshine and dry conditions last into the beginning of the work week.  Highs on Monday will be in the mid-40s, then drop to the lower-40s on Tuesday
