REIDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A major shakeup is happening to the high school sports scene in the Triad.
Now former Reidsville High School dual-sport star Kendre Harrison announced on his social media pages that he will be transferring to Providence Day School in Charlotte.
Harrison — a junior who stands at 6-feet-7-inches tall and weighs 243 pounds — holds the rare distinction of being a top prospect in both basketball and football.
Harrison is ranked by 247Sports as a four-star prospect in basketball for the Class of 2026. He is the 31st-ranked player in the nation and the second-best player in the state of North Carolina. He is ranked as a five-star prospect by 247Sports in football and is considered the 15th-best player in the Class of 2026 as a tight end and the No.1-tight end in the nation.
Harrison’s stock has skyrocketed in the last year as helped lead Reidsville to state championships in both football and basketball last season.
For the season on the basketball court, Harrison averaged 19.4 points per game, 15.1 rebounds per game and 3.7 blocks per game, according to MaxPreps.
He scored 19 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead the Rams to the title over Farmville Central High School in a thrilling 78-77 overtime victory.
For his efforts, he was named named the 2023-24 MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year.
On the football field, Harrison’s accomplishments are even more impressive. He helped lead the Rams to a state championship in football as well.
He played both tight end and defensive end for the 15-1 champion Rams during the 2023-24 season.
On offense, Harrison recorded 62 catches, 940 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign, according to MaxPreps.
On defense, he recorded 76 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, nine sacks and 30 quarterback hurries.
In the championship game against Clinton High School, Harrison recorded five catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the 28-18 win for the Rams, according to MaxPreps. He also recorded six tackles and a sack.
Providence Day, a private college preparatory high school, is known for its athletics and has many famous alumni across the sports world.
Two of Providence Day’s more notable athletic alumni include Carolina Panthers left tackle Ikem Ekwonu and Charlotte Horners power forward Grant Williams.
Recruiting outlook
While Harrison has received offers from many top colleges to play football, one major local university wants him to play both sports.

Harrison had already been offered a scholarship to play football for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by head coach Mack Brown. Now, he has been offered a scholarship to play basketball at the school by head coach Hubert Davis.
247Sports reports that Davis met with Harrison and extended the offer while he was in town for UNC’s June football camp.

Harrison also announced via his social media on Friday that he was offered a scholarship to the University of Nebraska.
Harrison says that he desires to play both football and basketball in college.
If he were to go to UNC, he would follow in the footsteps of several other Tar Heel greats who played both sports.
The most famous example is of course Julius Peppers, who went on to become a Pro Football Hall of Fame player for the Carolina Panthers.
Another prominent example is Ronald Curry, who played quarterback and guard for UNC and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders.
