The nature of the threat was not immediately clear but authorities said the concern was not related to children’s programs or church activities.
FORT MILL, S.C. — Law enforcement officials are responding to a “safety concern” at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Fort Mill.
The nature of the concern was not immediately clear. The Fort Mill Police Department took to Facebook to say:
“The concerns are not related to the children’s program or other church activities. Out of an abundance of caution, church administration canceled all programs scheduled at their campus today. No threats have been confirmed at this time. The Fort Mill Police Department has dedicated officers to the situation until the matter has been resolved.”
A phone call to the Fort Mill Police Department was not immediately answered. When reached by phone, someone at the church said they had no information available to share. WCNC Charlotte has a news crew headed to the church to learn additional information.
The church is located on Tom Hall Street immediately adjacent to Main Street.
