NC A&T student dies in shooting on Spring Garden St., school says

Police said the 20-year-old was found unresponsive in the breezeway of the apartment building.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Update: North Carolina A&T confirms Davion Jessup, 20, was a student at the university.

Police said a person is dead after a shooting in Greensboro Thursday.

Greensboro police, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded to the 2800 block of Spring Garden Street near Campus Crossing in reference to an aggravated assault around 9:10 p.m.

Officers said when they arrived, they found Davion Jessup, 20, had been shot.

Police said he was found unresponsive in the breezeway of the apartment building.

Officers said life-saving efforts were initiated, but Jessup died from his injuries on the scene.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The university released this statement:

We regret to inform you that North Carolina A&T student Davion T. Jessup, 20, from Charlotte, North Carolina, died Thursday, Aug. 22. 

Davion was a junior enrolled in the Management program (Entrepreneurship concentration) in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics.

Davion’s death is a great loss to the university community. Our heartfelt prayers and condolences are with Davion’s family and friends.
