Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson had just been married when a drunk driver crashed into the golf cart they were riding in.
CHARLESTON, S.C. — After Jamie Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for killing a Charlotte bride and injuring her new husband in a Folly Beach, South Carolina DUI crash in 2023, the groom’s family released a video showing some of the last moments the couple shared.
Annette Hutchinson, the mother of groom Aric Hutchinson, released the video to NBC News. That video was the last taken of the happy couple before the tragic crash.
Annette Hutchinson said the family wanted to release the video to bring awareness to impaired driving in the hopes of sparing another family from such a tragedy.
Just hours after his wedding, Aric Hutchinson was riding in a golf cart with his new bride, Samantha Miller, when Komoroski crashed into them at 65 mph. Miller died at the scene. Hutchinson and two other family members were injured in the crash.
Aric Hutchinson spoke in court on Monday about the pain of losing his wife.
Annette Hutchinson spoke about both the mental and physical challenges her son has faced since the crash.
Komoroski had a blood alcohol level around three times the legal limit when she slammed into the couple’s golf cart in 2023. During the trial, Komoroski pleaded guilty to several charges including reckless homicide, felony DUI with great bodily injury, and felony DUI with death. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
