A water activity advisory was issued last Thursday after approximately 600 gallons of untreated sewage may have spilled into the lake from a broken low-pressure sewer-service line, the Lincoln County Health Department said. It happened in the area of Chapel Creek Drive, which is just off Saliview Drive and Webbs Chapel Church Road.
After the potential spillage, officials urged residents to avoid the area because it may have been contaminated with fecal matter. Residents and lake users were asked to not touch the water until samples were tested and cleared. The Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant also took samples and put out signs warning people of potential contamination.
The water activity advisory was lifted at 11 a.m. Wednesday after testing showed the fecal coliform counts were “at an acceptable risk level” for people to go back in and on the water, Lincoln County Health Department told WCNC Charlotte.
