High of 77 degrees on Friday in the Triad

A cold front will sweep across the Carolinas through the day.  Skies are beginning to clear from west to east, and we will be able to enjoy sunnier conditions through lunchtime.  This afternoon, skies are expected to be partly cloudy with a 20% chance of stray showers or thunderstorms in the southern Piedmont.  Highs will rise to the mid-70s. The UV index today is going to be an 8 out of 11.

Mostly clear skies are ahead for tonight, though there will be some thin clouds developing around daybreak. Lows will dip into the upper-40s.

Over the weekend, we’ll have mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. Highs are going to be in the lower 70s. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

It’s going to be very wet as an area of low pressure emerges from the Gulf. There is a 90% chance of rain on Monday and Monday night, then a 70% chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday.  Rainfall will be heavy at times, and we may have between 1.5″ and 2″ of rain in area rain gauges by Wednesday morning. Temperatures will be cool initially, in the mid-60s on Monday, but Tuesday highs are forecast to return to the mid-70s.

We will have a notable drying trend and a steady warm-up as they get into the middle and late end of the week.  While there may be some showers on Wednesday – the chance of rain is 30% – most of the day will be partly cloudy, and skies will become sunny by Thursday. Wednesday’s highs are going to be near normal, in the upper-70s. Thursday, highs will become very summerlike, in the mid-80s.
