Heat advisory in several Triad counties, thunderstorms expected in the evening

PIEDMONT, TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Montgomery, and Randolph Counties. 

This is where the heat index may reach 104° or hotter for an extended period. 

No matter where you live, please stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you must be outdoors.

We’re starting the day with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.  Temperatures are going to heat up quickly, from the mid-70s to the upper-80s by lunchtime. 

We will reach the daytime high of 93° in the mid-afternoon, then start to cool off a bit as thunderstorms begin to fire up.

The heat index in the Triad will be between 100° and 104°, and the chance of rain is 50%.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue through the evening, then taper off around midnight.  Lows will settle to the mid-70s by Saturday morning.

The weekend will be cooler, with highs in the mid-80s. 

A cold front will cross the mountains and stall out over central North Carolina, bringing a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday, and a 30% chance on Sunday.  

By Monday, the front washes out and we’ll have a few days with rain chances between 20% and 30%.  Highs for the first half of the work week will return to the upper-80s. 

Another system is forecast to bring rain on Thursday along with a few thunderstorms, and highs in the mid-80s.
