Former Alamance Co. employee, family charged with felony embezzlement

Detectives said she used a credit card owned by Alamance Co. to purchase personal items.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A former Alamance County employee and their family have been charged with multiple felonies, according to the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 14, detectives at the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation for embezzlement that they believed involved Alamance County employee Tracy Smith Perry. The sheriff’s office found the suspect made multiple purchases using Alamance County Government credit cards.

Detectives said they believed the purchases had been made for “personal gains.” They then moved to charge Perry, her husband William Walter Perry, and her daughter Kaycee Marie Perry for their alleged involvement.

Tracy Smith Perry and her husband were arrested on July 22. Her daughter was arrested on July 23.  

Tracy Smith Perry is charged with: 

  • 4 counts of Felony Access Government Computers to Defraud 
  • 1 count Felony Conspiracy
  • 15 counts Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense
  • 15 counts Felony Embezzlement-Public Office/Trustee

She is being held with no bond.

William Walter Perry is charged with:

  • 3 counts Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense
  • 1 count Felony Count Conspiracy

He is being held on a $100,000 unsecured bond.

Kaycee Marie Perry is charged with 

  • 7 counts Felony Obtain Property False Pretense
  • 1 count Felony Conspiracy

She is being held with no bond.

Detectives have seized property they believe was purchased with the county credit card. The case is still under investigation.
