Durham man arrested for DWI, speeding in Alamance County, troopers say

He is accused of going 96 mph in a 65 mph zone.

GRAHAM, N.C. — A high-speed chase on I-85 in Alamance County ended in a crash and multiple felony charges for a Durham man on Sunday, July 28.

Around 8:32 p.m., the State Highway Patrol saw a black Toyota speeding at 96 mph in a 65 mph zone. When troopers tried to stop the car, the driver, 25-year-old Leon Jackson III, fled, prompting a brief two-minute pursuit, according to troopers.

Troopers said Jackson exited at NC-87, ran a red light, and hit another vehicle. Both the driver of the other car and Jackson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

Jackson has been charged with driving while impaired, speeding, reckless driving, and several other felonies: fleeing to elude, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, intent to sell controlled substances, and causing serious injury.

Troopers cleared the scene by 10:06 p.m.
