Convicted killer escapee caught in Kannapolis, female acquaintance arrested in Burlington

Police arrested Ramone Alston Friday morning and arrested a female acquaintance from Alamance County.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Escaped inmate Ramone Alston is now back behind bars and facing additional charges. Investigators say they arrested him shortly before 2 a.m. Friday at a hotel in Kannapolis. The operation involved Charlotte SWAT agents, the FBI, and Kannapolis Police.

After arresting Alston, law enforcement also arrested his female acquaintance from Alamance County, 32-year-old Jacobia Crisp. She is charged with felony aiding and abetting a fugitive.

According to the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, she was booked into the detention center at 8 a.m. Deputies served a warrant from Orange County for her arrest.  She was arrested at approximately at 2 a.m. at her home in Burlington. She is under a $30,000 bond. There is no word yet when Orange County officials will come get her.

Alston escaped Tuesday morning while being transported for medical care. He is being taken to a high-security unit to resume serving his life sentence for first-degree murder. He shot into a Chapel Hill home and a bullet hit and killed a one-year-old on Christmas Day in 2015.

Alston will also face charges related to the escape. And it’s possible more people could be charged for helping him hide. That investigation is still ongoing.

“I am grateful to our DAC staff and thankful for the support and effort from hundreds of local, state and federal public safety officers who helped in the search and investigation that returned Alston safely to custody,” said DPS Secretary Todd Ishee in a news release. “This was an incredible collaborative effort of many people and agencies.”

This comes after investigators said they had two new leads on Alston’s whereabouts Thursday morning.
