GREENSBORO, N.C. — Just weeks after the first incident, it happened again.
Chemistry Nightclub, an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Greensboro, was broken into on Monday, Dec. 23. This is the second time they’ve been robbed in two weeks.
The nightclub posted alarming videos of someone breaking through their glass door and stealing about six bottles of liquor.
In a post on Facebook, the nightclub made a statement saying they believe the break-in was an attack on the LGBTQ+ community and spaces created for it.
“Chemistry Nightclub is one of the few remaining LGBTQ+ spaces in Greensboro, and we are proud of what we’ve built here. But make no mistake—this is more than just a robbery. This feels targeted,” wrote the nightclub.
“When you harm Chemistry, you’re harming the LGBTQ+ community,” wrote Chemistry. “This is more than theft. This is hatred. And it will not be tolerated.”
The robbery happened on the same day Greensboro police officer Micheal Horan was shot and killed inside a Food Lion.
Combined with the robbery, Chemistry wanted to use these moments as a wake-up call to the city.
” The tragedy of losing a police officer, combined with the increasing attacks on small businesses, cannot be ignored. It’s time to come together, to demand better, and to work towards rebuilding the trust and safety that our community deserves,” wrote the nightclub.
