WHAT WE FOUND

What is allowed?

According to the North Carolina Forest Service and the city of Charlotte, the following activities are prohibited under the current burn ban:

  • Recreational fires, bonfires, fire pits, and warming fires are strictly forbidden.
  • Grills and outdoor cooking devices are permitted but must be attended at all times. Cooking over an open flame, such as with a campfire, is not allowed.
  • Even if you hold a burn permit, it is prohibited during the burn ban. The statewide ban overrides any existing permits.

Penalties for Ban Violations

Those who violate the burn ban face a $100 fine, plus $183 in court costs. In addition, violators could be held financially responsible for any expenses related to extinguishing any unauthorized fires.

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice. Officials urge residents to stay vigilant and abide by these restrictions to prevent further wildfires and ensure public safety.
