Area schools announce closures, remote learning on Friday

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — With roads still being cleared due to Tuesday’s winter storm, area school districts have been adjusting schedules all week.

Below are announcements regarding schedules for Friday, Jan. 23.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY

Cape Fear Academy — Closed Friday, Jan. 24, and all afterschool activities are canceled.

New Hanover County Schools — Classes are canceled Friday, Jan. 24; no makeup day is required. Midterm report cards for traditional schools were planned for Monday, Jan. 27, but now will be spent out on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

ALSO: CFCC transitions to remote instruction on Friday

AND: UNCW classes canceled through Friday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY SCHOOLS

Brunswick County Schools — Asynchronous remote learning will continue on Friday, Jan. 24. Students will complete assignments from home, and all district offices and school buildings will be closed, with employees working remotely. All after-school activities, including athletics, are canceled.

PENDER COUNTY

Pender County Schools — Remote learning is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, except for Pender Early College, which will be closed. All extra-curricular activities are canceled through Saturday. Teachers will provide assignments and instructions through their usual online platforms.
