In a statement, Durham police said the northbound and southbound lanes were experiencing “heavy standing water” from the recent storm. As a result, this caused several vehicle collisions.

NCDOT cameras showed multiple emergency vehicles responding to the crash site, blocking significant portions of the interstate.

Another wreck happened near I-885 close to mile marker 178, resulting in two left southbound lanes being shut down.
