1 injured in Hanes Mall shooting, police say

Police said the lockdown was lifted at Hanes Mall about an hour into the investigation and there is no threat to the public.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police are investigating a reported shooting at Hanes Mall on Wednesday afternoon. 

Police said they responded around 3:50 p.m. and found one person injured. EMS and Fire units are at the scene as well. 

Police said at this time, it appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community. Hanes Mall is no longer on lockdown. Police said the only portion that is closed is the entrance beside Dave and Buster’s. 

No arrests have been made. 

Forsyth Tech sent an alert out to students and staff about the shooting. 

Several people are chiming in on social media about what happened. 

Holly Calhoun said she received an “I love you” text from her daughter who was inside the mall when the shooting happened. She said her daughter and two other family members are hiding in a store until they are able to leave.
