PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is a High Wind Warning in effect until 7 pm today for Alleghany, Ashe, and Watauga counties.  Winds will be sustained between 20 and 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

There is a Wind Advisory in effect until 4 am Friday for Wilkes and Surry counties. Winds will be sustained between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Though the cold front from yesterday is now over the western Atlantic Ocean, we will still be feeling breezy conditions across the Piedmont. Winds are expected to stay between 18 and 22 mph today with gusts up to 35 mph in the Triad. It’s going to be much chillier today, with highs near 50° under mostly sunny skies.

We will have clear conditions and lighter winds to enjoy during the evening hours, but clouds will roll back in overnight. Lows are expected to dip into the lower-30s.

As the weekend approaches, we can look forward to milder temperatures. Friday is going to be cloudy with highs jumping back to near normal, in the upper-50s.

A cold front is forecast to head into the Piedmont on Saturday, and we will have a warm breeze that boosts temperatures into the upper-60s to near 70°. Skies are expected to be partly cloudy on Saturday, then mostly cloudy on Sunday behind the cold front. There is a slim, 20% chance of showers Sunday with highs back in the upper-50s.

The first half of next week will seem like spring has arrived early! It’s going to be sunny Monday through Wednesday, and temperatures will warm back to the mid-60s on Monday, and mid-70s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
