WILMINGTON — Chicago’s rock darlings Wilco announced 2025 spring tour dates, with a stop planned for the Port City.

Members Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche, Mikael Jorgensen, Nels Cline and Pat Sansone are hitting the road with opening act Waxahatchee. Tweedy’s son Spencer has played with the group in the last few years.

Together, they will be at Wilmington’s Live Oak Bank Pavilion on May 13 as part of the 17-date Sweet And Sour tour through the American South before the bands take on the European leg.

Wilco’s indie-rock sound was formed out of alternative country act Uncle Tupelo from the mid-’90s. To date, Wilco has released 13 studio albums, including its most successful release, “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” from 2001.

By 2004, Wilco received two Grammy Awards for its album “A Ghost is Born.” In 2022, the band won another Grammy for its reissue of “Foxtrot” as Best Historical Album.

Wilsco has performed and recorded with artists such as Billy Bragg, Neil Young, and others. Often coined the “American Radiohead,” the group is known for blending alternative rock and Americana with experimental feedback and atonal eruptions.

In September 2023, the group released the album, “Cousin,” followed by June 2024’s EP, “Hot Sun Cool Shroud.” The band toured last year in its support as well, including stops in Charlotte and Raleigh, the latter at the North Carolina Museum of Art (click here to see video clip).

Tickets to the Wilmington show go on presale Wednesday, Jan. 15 (password HOTSUN) and open to the general public on Friday, Jan. 17, 10 a.m. Audience members can also request a song for the band to play in Wilmington here.
