Weather Impact Aware: The intense heat returns mid-week

The WCNC Weather Impact Team wants you to stay Weather Impact Aware on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to the heat index forecast.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a break from the heat over the past few weeks, heat index values are expected to surpass 103 degrees again this week. This is notable because 103 degrees is when a human body is more likely to go into heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

The WCNC Weather Impact Team wants the Charlotte area to stay Weather Aware on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to the intense heat index forecast for those days.

When

All day on Wednesday, July 31, Thursday, Aug. 1, Friday, Aug 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3.

Forecast

Heat index values ranging from 103 degrees to 106 degrees runs a higher risk for folks to experience heat exhaustion, heatstroke and dehydration.

This above-average heat is expected to last through at least the first half of the weekend. There will also be less rain to cool us off from the scorching temperatures and heat indices.

When temperatures get this high in the Carolinas, it’s important to stay Weather Aware by: 

  • Limiting your time outside/take breaks
  • Staying hydrated
  • Seeking shade when available
  • Checking on the elderly and pets
