Three deadly shootings occurred in Mecklenburg County in a 12-hour span on Sunday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was a deadly weekend in Mecklenburg County after multiple violent incidents happened over the course of 12 hours.

On Sunday around noon, one person was shot and killed at an apartment complex in west Charlotte. Crews responded to a reported shooting on Nobles Avenue, near the intersection of West Boulevard and Billy Graham Parkway, around 12:45 p.m. Medic confirmed one person, 18-year-old Jordyn Campbell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Then at 10:12 p.m., a homicide in east Mecklenburg County happened in the 10000 block of Old Camden Road near Cabarrus Road. Authorities responded to a house in Midland around 10 p.m. after getting a call about an assault with a deadly weapon, according to CMPD. Police said a man was found dead from a gunshot wound at the scene when they arrived.

CMPD confirmed officers arrested 18-year-old Michael William McAllister and he is facing a first-degree murder charge in the killing of 31-yr-old Cameron Lackey.

“We know a confrontation happened and then shots were exchanged ,” Major Dave Johnson shared with news crews while on the scene at Old Camden Road. McAllister had his first appearance in court on Monday morning where he received no bond.

Then just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, a shooting in the University City area of Charlotte sent three men to the hospital, where one of them died. The shooting happened in the back parking lot of the 1st and Goal sports bar on University City Boulevard near North Tryon Street. “We know there was some type of altercation in the parking lot in the rear of this establishment ,” Major Johnson said.

CMPD later identified 35-year-old Wonah Abu-Baby Konte Jr. as the person who died. The condition of the other two men who were shot in the altercation is unclear.

Including the violent weekend, CMPD has investigated 109 homicides so far this year. 2023 saw a total of 96 homicides.
