BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A touching video shows the moment a Burlington man reunited with the woman who gave him a kidney.
Last month, we re-introduced you Albert “Alj” Jeffries.
As a baby, he was diagnosed with a heart condition. Then he had his life-saving heart transplant at 13. At the age of 22, he found out that his kidneys weren’t working and that he would need a new one.
Alj’s mother, who has been by his side throughout his journey, arranged for him to meet his kidney donor, Mandy Harris, last week ahead of his surgery which took place on Tuesday.
“I could not let go. I didn’t want to let go at all,” Alj said about the moment he met his donor.
All of that led to the pair having a touching reunion after the operation with Alj bringing his self-proclaimed “guardian angel” a stuffed bear in her hospital bed.
