The injuries were serious, but the victim is recovering. Deputies are now looking for the suspect.
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A shooting that unfolded just west of Salisbury in late July remains under investigation after detectives said the suspect’s car was found abandoned and on fire just days later.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting on July 31 happened around 11:30 p.m. along Majolifa Road near Sherills Ford Road. The suspect was reportedly followed by a suspect from the Lakewood Apartments in Salisbury until they reached their destination. That’s when the suspect, driving a red Hyundai Sonata, fired at the victim.
Deputies said the victim was hit in the head and faced serious injuries. However, the victim is recovering.
The sheriff’s office said the Sonata was reported as stolen from Salisbury previously. On August 2, it was found abandoned and on fire in the city along East Monroe Street near South Clay Street. A photo of the burned car was shared by deputies.
Additionally, deputies shared a surveillance photo of the car captured on the night of the shooting. The camera is located outside of the apartment complex and is timestamped for 10:29 p.m.
