Trump highlights immigration during visit to border

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — Hours before Vice President Kamala Harris is set to accept the Democratic party’s nomination for president, former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) held campaign events talking about the border.

Former President Trump criticized Harris, calling her the border czar, which the White House has denied.

“We had a border czar,” Trump said. “She loved the title, but she didn’t do the work because she’s lazy.”

Trump took credit for the border fence he toured in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

“I was never in love with it architecturally, until I saw the fact that nobody could climb over it,” Trump said.

The Biden administration said Republicans are to blame for the nation’s issues at the border. President Joe Biden addressed it during his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

“Trump killed the strongest bipartisan border deal in the history of the United States,” Biden said.

Earlier this year, an immigration bill failed to pass the Senate. Some Democrats and nearly all Republicans voted against the bill, including Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s vice-presidential candidate.

“It had nothing to do with border security,” Vance said. “We have got to close down the border and stop the cartels from bringing this poison into our communities.”

Vance spoke at a “border policy” event in Valdosta, Georgia.
