PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Round one of the severe weather threat passed through the area this morning.

These were left-over showers and storms from the ones that produced severe weather with tornadoes yesterday in Alabama and Georgia. Fortunately, we did not have any tornadoes. We did have gusts between 40 and 50 mph with a peak gust of 52 mph at Truist Field in Winston-Salem.

Severe weather Sunday morning caused some damage and/or power outages in the area.

In Walkertown, a broken pole caused by a fallen tree will take five or six hours to repair.

According to Duke Energy, about 150 customers in the Triad experienced outages due to downed powerlines and broken poles. Crews are actively working on repairs, which are expected to be completed around 6 p.m.

Round two is expected into Sunday evening. This will not be as widespread but could be strong.  There is a threat for a thunderstorm until around 9 p.m. for most of us, possibly until 10 p.m. in our eastern counties. This activity could still produce very strong gusts given the winds 3000-5000 feet above the ground are still strong. Also, there is some spin in the atmosphere today into this evening that would give us a low chance for a tornado. Once this all slides east of us, the rest of the night will be quiet and cooler. Lows around 46.

Next week is going to be beautiful and quiet. Becoming sunny on Monday with a high of 59.  Back to 70 on Tuesday with sunshine. Partly Cloudy and 77 on Wednesday. That is the best day of the week. Thursday we expect a few showers to return with a high of 66. Lows will slide from 46 on Monday down to 35 on Tuesday morning with some patchy frost possible. Back to 44 on Wednesday and then lows in the lower 50s on Thursday.

Friday through next weekend is looking good.  Sunny to Partly Cloudy with highs from near 60 on Friday to 66 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday.
