SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Aug. 5

CFPUA Finance Committee meets at 11:30 a.m. at 235 Government Center Dr. in the Jordan Room. The agenda includes multiple action items: 

  • $4.3 million contract with T.A. Loving Company for the Sidbury Road and Greenview Area East Force Main Project
  • $3.3 million contract with S&L Contracting, LLC for the Greenview Area West Force Main Project
  • $837,415.00 contract for Carolina Civilworks Inc. for Porters Neck Booster Pump Station Replacement projec

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here.  The agenda includes: 

  • Charlotte  Cooperative Purchasing Alliance interlocal agreement
  • Grant agreement with NCDEQ for its Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant
  • Presentation on a recommended strategic planning dashboard solution
  • Proclamation for International Overdose Awareness Day

The Town of Oak Island’s Recreation Advisory Board will meet at 4 p.m.  in the Oak Island Community Center, 102 SE 47th Street in Oak Island. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda can be viewed here. 

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Amendments to the comprehensive plan to incorporate updated guidance on the development of the west bank of the Cape Fear River 
  • Quasi-judicial hearing for use of single-family attached dwelling in a business zoned parcel off Seabreeze Road 

Tuesday, Aug. 6

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Apply for a New Hanover Community Endowment Grant in the Amount of $2,758,200 for a Three-Year Workforce Housing Voucher Program
  • Ordinance Rezone Property Containing 2.39 Acres of Land Located at 1320 Independence Boulevard from R-15, Moderate-Density Single-Dwelling District to O&I(CD), Office & Institutional (Conditional District) for a Commercial District Mixed Use (CDMU) Development
  • Ordinance to Rezone Property Containing 10.27 Acres of Land Located at 120 Switchyard Road from MF-MH (L) (CD), Multiple-Family Residential District-Medium-High Density (Legacy) (Conditional District) to MD-10(CD), Medium-density Multiple-dwelling Residential District (Conditional District) for a 60-unit Residential Development 

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Information on cell phone bags 
  • NHCS discipline data update
  • Information on the town hall

The Town of Belville’s Planning Board  will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers at 63 River Road in Belville. Meetings are open to the public. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. at the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology (The COAST), 1109 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • School Nurse Funding Initiative agreement
  • Text amendments to policy 4311 regarding the use of wireless communication devices and policy 4316 regarding student dress and appearance. 
  • College Advising Corps MOU

Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at Hampstead Annex, 15060 US Highway 17. The agenda includes four rezoning requests, including a revision of the Oak Ridge Master Development Plan to allow real estate offices and commercial banks on the eastern side of HWY 17 in the Topsail Township.

Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The agenda includes approval of a memorandum of agreement for the Surf City Boat Access area and Banks Channel Navigation Project. Meetings can be livestreamed here.

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in Grover Plaza, 1402 Little John Circle. An agenda was not posted by press. 

NC Healthcare Engineers Association — a nonprofit, incorporated association dedicated to serving and promoting the healthcare engineering profession — will meet at the Wilmington Convention Center, Aug. 6 – 9. Around 1,000 attendees are expected with more than 475 education exhibitors and guests. An opening reception is hosted Tuesday night, with opening ceremony Wednesday morning. featuring 9-year-old Greta Kate Haugland, performing the National Anthem. The keynote speaker is Mark Schulmann, plus there are professional development courses, district meetings and 140 vendor exhibits. It closes Thursday night with reception and banquet gala, amd entertainment by local comedic magician Michael Mario. Other optional activities include a fishing tournament aboard private fishing charter Vonda Kay in Carolina Beach/ NCHEA annual golf tournament will be held at the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course. Donations from NCHEA’s 2024 Golf Tournament and Fishing Tournament, among other donation opportunities, will benefit local non-profit, Kids Making It , and local youth development organization, First Tee.

North Carolina State Ports Authority Finance Committee meets at 9 a.m. in the board room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Boulevard. Members of the public may join in person.

Wednesday, Aug. 7 

North Topsail Board of Aldermen will meet at 11 a.m. at Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes a rezoning application for 1090 New River Inlet Road. Livestream the meeting here.

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 418 and 420 McRae St.: General rezoning of the properties containing 0.134 of an acre +/- from CB, Community Business and R-5, Medium-density mixed residential district to R-3, Medium-high-density mixed residential district
  • 507, 509, 515, 519, 525 and 529 S. Kerr Ave.: Conditional district rezoning of the properties containing 6.56 acres +/- from R-10, Medium-density single-dwelling district, to MD-17(CD), High-density multiple-dwelling residential (Conditional District) for multi-family development

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning will meet at 6 p.m. at 1121 Lake Park Boulevard, in council chambers. The agenda includes a conditional rezoning to add a bar to Ant Bates Motel LLC, 3 Cape Fear Blvd. Access livestreams of meetings here.

Thursday, Aug. 8 

The Navassa Parks and Recreation Board​​ will meet at 10 a.m. at 338 Main Street in Navassa. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Town of Leland’s Economic Development Comittee will meet at 6 p.m. in Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive in Leland. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.  

The Navassa Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 338 Main Street in Navassa. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Construction of an addition at 512 Chesnut St. 
  • Exterior alterations, fence and driveway installation at 402 S. Third St. 

The Pender County Board of Education Regular Meeting will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US HWY 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
