SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily shares upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region to keep the public informed and engaged. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting too.

Monday, Aug. 19

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the commissioners chambers of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  •  A overview presentation on NCDOT and NC133 Bridge Project 
  • Acceptance of DEQ funds for Shallotte WWTP Expansion & Transmission (Mulberry Project) Project 
  • NC Forestry Service agreement for the protection, development, and improvement of forest land in Brunswick County

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • New Hanover Community Endowment presentation 
  • New Hanover County Airport Authority update
  • Consideration of NHCS request to fund comprehensive facility study

The Pender County Board of Commissioners meet at Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St., at 4 p.m. The meeting can be livestreamed here and the agenda includes multiple items:

  • Resolution approving county’s application for grant funding through WMPO for the design of a multi-use path along Country Club Drive, Azalea Drive, Jenkins Road and N. St. John’s Church Road in Hampstead
  • Legislative goals and submission of such goals to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for consideration at its conference
  • Public hearings on three items, including rezoning to make way for a storage facility for boats and RVs, special use permit update on an industrial park in the Grady Township, and revising SUP on community boating facility in the the Long Point Estates neighborhood within Topsail 

Surf City Planning Board meeting takes place at 4 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex Training Room, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press; the meeting can be livestreamed here.

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda can be viewed here. 

Kure Beach Town Council meets at 6 p.m. in council chambers at town hall, 117 Settlers Ln. An agenda was not posted by press but the public is welcome. 

Tuesday, Aug. 20

The Wilmington City Council wil meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance amending the Land Development Code, Chapter 18, for various amendments related to legacy district standards and exceptional design
  • Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a five-year agreement with Axon Enterprise, Inc. of Scottsdale, AZ for In-Car Cameras and Access to the Fusus Enterprise System for the Wilmington Police Department [WPD Budget Impact: $3.6 million]

The Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO Board of Commissioners will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the Ro Water Treatment Plant Training room at 146 Gregory Road in Bolivia. Meetings are open to the public. The agenda includes: 

  • Resolution for a records policy
  • Towns at Seabrook phase 1 release performance guarantee 
  • Willow Creek service contract amendment 

The Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. in the commissioners chambers of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive, Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here; the agenda includes a directors report and public comments. 

The Brunswick County Schools Curriculum and Policy Committe and Operations Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the board room of the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The curriculum and policy agenda includes an IMPACTT-NC: Telemedicine Agreement and action to policy 431, use of wireless communication devices and policy 4316, student dress and appearance. The operations agenda includes SBHS softball dugouts contract and CMAR declaration to county. 

The Southport Board of Alderman will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 East Bay Street in Southport. Meetings are livestreamed here.  The agenda includes: 

  • UDO amendments to open space and right of ways. 
  • Discussion of relinquishment of ETJ impacts 
  • Discussion of tree clearing at Oakton

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 3320: School Trips 
  • Policy 4004: Student Voice
  • Policy 3220: Technology in the Educational Program 

The Belville ABC Board meets at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road. The agenda includes discussing a warranty for the van, pothole in Belville parking lot and mixed-beverage account update. The public is welcome to attend.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. in Commissioners’ Chambers in the David Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive NE. The agenda can be located here and the public is welcome to attend.

The State Board of Elections will hold a remote meeting at 12:30. Members of the public can attend the meeting online through Webex with the password “ncsbe.” The tentative agenda includes consideration of the court order Ortiz vs. N.C. State Board of Elections and vacancy appointments of county board members.

Thursday, Aug. 22

Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission meets at Surf City Town Hall’s board meeting room, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press but more info can be found here.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s Sustainability and Long Range Planning committees meet Thursday at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., 230 Government Center Dr., room 136, respectively. The LRP agenda includes discussion on impact of growth projects, and the sustainability group’s agenda includes information about the source water protection plan. 

Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority meets at 12:30 p.m. at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. The agenda includes setting a public hearing for the Wave Reimagine route changes for Sept. 26, as well as a contract renewal for RideMICRO and three-year contract with the STX Group for a program that generates revenue for Wave from the sale of renewable natural gas commodities. The meeting is not livestreamed but attendance is welcome and public comment is limited to 5 minutes per person, or community members can submit comments by emailing comments submitted to the downloaded form to info@wavetransit.com by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Board will meet at 9 a.m. in the board room at North Carolina Maritime Building located at 2202 Burnett Boulevard. An agenda was not posted by press.
