Terrace Marshall Jr. among cuts as Panthers trim to 53 players

A former second-round pick was among the players waived by the Panthers ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have made their final roster moves to get down to 53 players ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline across the NFL.

Arguably the most notable player waived by Carolina on Tuesday was receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Marshall Jr. played in 36 games over three seasons but never broke through as a go-to target for the Panthers’ offense.

Marshall caught 64 passes for 767 yards and one touchdown over his three seasons with the Panthers.

Another name of note from Tuesday’s cuts is tight end Jordan Matthews, the converted receiver who shined for Carolina during the preseason. The fact that Matthews was left off the final roster likely means that the team is confident in the recovery of tight end Tommy Tremble, who has missed most of the team’s workouts this offseason.

Offensive tackle Ricky Lee — a North Carolina A&T alum — was also among Tuesday’s cuts.
