WILMINGTON — A suspect is in custody following a shooting Friday night that left a 23-year-old dead and another person injured at Aspire 349, a student housing development.
On August 16, around 3:00 p.m., Wilmington Police responded to an EMS call on the 4200 block of Academy Cove, where Aspire 349 is located. Officers found 23-year-old Otis Taylor dead at the scene, while another victim was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The Wilmington Police Department then launched a homicide investigation, which led them to suspect 21-year-old Craig Lynch. According to a WPD release, the murder was related to a robbery involving people who knew each other. Leads suggested Lynch was headed to New York.
On August 17, Lynch was located and arrested in Buffalo, New York, by the Buffalo Police Department. He has been charged with first-degree murder and will be extradited back to Wilmington.
“This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time,” said Brandon Shope, a WPD representative. “ We send our condolences to Mr. Taylor’s friends and family members during this difficult time.”
