(WGHP) — We will close the week with cool temperatures. Cold temperatures and perhaps a little wintry weather will follow.
Mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies on Friday with highs near 50 degrees. A strong cold front moving across the Piedmont could produce wind gusts up to 30 mph.
Sunny and cold on Saturday with lows in the lower 20s and highs in the upper 30s.
A low-pressure system will move across the mid-south on Sunday. In the Piedmont, clouds will begin to roll in during the day. Lows on Sunday will be in the lower 20s with highs in the lower 40s. Sunday evening, light showers will start to fall. With cold, dry air in place, some sleet and snow flurries could mix in. More moisture will move in as our temperatures in the clouds begin to warm. This will probably cause our wintry mix to change to rain overnight with some pockets of freezing rain. Temperatures on Monday morning will be near 32 degrees. The chance of precipitation from Sunday night into Monday morning is 80%.
Warm air aloft on Monday morning will begin to mix down to the surface. If we have any leftover freezing rain, it will switch to plain rain. Showers will end during the day Monday. There’s even a chance we could see a few peaks of sun before sunset. Highs on Monday will be in the low to middle 40s. Chance of rain 70%.
Sunny and chilly on Tuesday with lows in the low to middle 20s and highs in the upper 30s.
Sunny and cold Wednesday with lows around 20 degrees and highs in the upper 30s.
Even colder on Thursday. Mostly sunny with lows in the upper teens and highs in the middle 30s.
