CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A storm system could develop off the coast of the Carolinas by early next week.
A low-pressure system could form this weekend along the Carolina coast, according to the WCNC Weather Impact team. That cluster of storms has about a 40% chance of developing into a subtropical or tropical depression, according to analysis by the National Hurricane Center.
Regardless of whether or not the system officially meets the criteria for a tropical depression, rain is likely for coastal communities in both North Carolina and South Carolina. Some coastal areas could see up to five inches of rain.
The storm system could then move inland bringing areas of heavy rain to central and eastern portions of the Carolinas. Charlotte is forecast to be on the western edge of any impacts from this system. As a result, the storm system could bring added rain showers to Charlotte’s forecast.
