Steady rain moving into the Piedmont Triad on Thursday

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s a cloudy start to the day across most of the FOX8 viewing area, and clouds will continue to roll in from the west through the day. By 3 p.m., steadier showers are expected in the western Piedmont, and this rain will spread across the Triad through 6 p.m.

High temperatures will stay below normal this afternoon, eventually reaching the mid-60s. The chance of rain is 70% and we are expecting 1/4″ or less today.

Scattered showers will continue overnight, with lows in the upper-40s. Rainfall: around 1/10″.

More rain is ahead for Friday, and we may squeeze out a few thunderstorms, though severe weather isn’t a problem. Still, there is a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall that could cause urban flash flooding and swollen creeks and streams in isolated areas. The chance of rain is 90% and rainfall for Friday is expected to be 3/4″ to 1″. Highs will be in the upper-50s.

The Piedmont is going to dry out over the weekend as high pressure builds eastward, and we’ll start to experience some big swings in our high temperatures. Clouds are going to stubbornly hang on through Saturday, with highs staying in the upper-50s. By Sunday, however, we will have mostly sunny skies to enjoy along with high temperatures in the upper-60s.

The most dramatic temperature changes arrive Monday as highs rise to near 80° under partly cloudy skies. A cold front comes through Tuesday, bringing some morning clouds and lower temperatures to the mid-70s. Much cooler weather is on the way for Wednesday, as highs return to the mid-60s under sunny skies.
