PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 am for Alleghany, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties.
Commuters need to be vigilant watching for slick spots on roads this morning.Â
It’s going to be a cold, windy morning with temperatures in the mid-to upper-20s and wind chills in the teens at times.Â
Temperatures are expected to warm above freezing by lunchtime, and we’ll have dry, sunny weather all day with highs in the upper-30s.
Skies will be mostly clear tonight with lows near 20°.
Sunshine continues to dominate the forecast on Wednesday and Thursday, even as highs slip into the mid-30s. Â
Clouds begin to increase through the day on Friday as an area of low-pressure churns out of the Gulf of Mexico.Â
Highs will stay in the mid-30s on Friday. Precipitation is forecast to move into central NC by the evening commute Friday.Â
At this point, it’s looking like mainly snow through the overnight hours though it’s too early to estimate amounts. As the precipitation winds down early Saturday morning, it may change over briefly to freezing rain before ending. There is still a healthy amount of uncertainty about the track and timing of this system. The chance of precipitation Friday night is 90%.
It will become quite dry this weekend, with highs in the mid-to-upper-30s Saturday and Sunday. Sunny conditions on Sunday will spill over into the new work week. Monday will be sunny with highs in the lower-40s.
