Sewer utility services halted for some Oak Island residents

OAK ISLAND ā€”Ā The tropical cyclone that moved through southeastern North Carolina Monday has caused an inundation of water at pumping stations in Oak Island, affecting sewer services for some residents.

Until further notice, impacted residents have been asked to avoid theĀ use of all interior drains, including toilets, showers, and sinks.

The shutdown affects homes in:

  • Service area 1:Ā FromĀ 36th Place WestĀ to the west end (The Point), includingĀ Shoreline Drive, and all areasĀ west of theĀ 3300 blocksĀ ofĀ West Pelican Drive, West Dolphin Drive, West Beach Drive.
  • Service area 2: A partial impact will be felt on areas ofĀ westĀ andĀ east ofĀ Dolphin Drive, fromĀ 5th Place WestĀ toĀ 16th Place EĀ 
  • Service area 3:Ā SouthĀ ofĀ E Oak Island DriveĀ fromĀ SE 40th StreetĀ toĀ SE 58th Street

The sewer utilities team is assessing damage and noted more closures may be possible.
