Second teen charged after young man shot, found dead in south Charlotte car

The arrest comes a week after the shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another arrest has been made after an 18-year-old was shot and killed inside a car in south Charlotte a week ago, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

On Friday, the department said 18-year-old Sanjie A’Nee Johnson had been arrested. He is now charged with killing Zackay Evan Rieken, along with a 17-year-old teenager who remains unidentified.

Rieken was found in a car along James Blakeney Avenue on Oct. 26, which is in a neighborhood near the shopping center that shares the same name. Responding officers found Rieken dead with a gunshot wound inside a car.

Ring security video shows a car being driven by Rieken, when someone outside pulls out a gun and fires it. Rieken can then be seen driving and crashing the car. The shooter and others appear to run to a car and speed away at that point.

“That sad part is that a young man lost his life,” neighbor Welma Lolin said after watching the video. Lolin said she has a 19-year-old, and moved to the area to keep her children safe.

Both Johnson and the 17-year-old have been charged with murder and shooting into an occupied property.
