Routh’s defense team had requested earlier this month that the trial be pushed from its original date of February.
FLORIDA, USA — Ryan Routh, the man accused of trying to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach country club back in September, has had his trial pushed back by a federal judge to September, according to CBS News.
Routh — who has ties to Greensboro — was originally supposed to go on trial on Feb. 10, 2025. Monday, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon released an order moving the start of the trial to Sept. 8, 2025.
Earlier this month, Routh’s legal team requested that his trial be pushed to December 2025. According to court documents, his defense said it needed more time to review the “extraordinary volume” of evidence it had acquired during the discovery process.
Part of the digital evidence acquired during discovery was over 240 GB of data downloaded from 18 phones, over 320 GB downloaded from three computers, over 47 GB downloaded from three tablets, over 13 GB downloaded from storage discs and 3,000 photos.
Routh, 58, has pleaded not guilty to five counts, including one for the attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate.
