CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. — Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Chimney Rock’s Groundhog Day tradition will persist.

The highlight of the afternoon will be Tater the Groundhog’s prediction at 1:30 p.m., where the mascot will forecast the arrival of spring and the winner of Super Bowl LIX.

Tater has a historical 60% accuracy rate in predictions.

The event will be livestreamed on Facebook, with a full video available on YouTube at 3:00 p.m. for those unable to attend in person.

While Chimney Rock State Park remains closed due to storm damage, the event symbolizes resilience.

This year’s 20th Annual Celebration set to take place on Feb. 2, 2025, at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

From 12-2 p.m., the community is invited to a family-friendly event featuring park naturalists, animal ambassadors and groundhog-themed crafts.

Visitors can also enjoy ice skating, a carousel and support local businesses through WNC Main Street.

Chimney Rock Village Mayor Peter O’Leary will announce Tater’s predictions, maintaining the community’s tradition of welcoming spring with optimism and hope.
