PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — We officially tied the record high temperature for today with a high of 87 degrees! The previous record was set on April 5, 1929 and April 5, 1942. We’ll continue to see partly cloudy skies this evening with temperatures in the 80s through 8 p.m. Another warm night is in store as moisture and clouds continue to stick around overnight.Â
We’ll start Sunday morning with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 60s. Skies remain partly cloudy until the afternoon when more clouds will build in ahead of approaching rain. Most of the Triad will stay dry through the early afternoon on Sunday but the mountains and foothills will see rain as early as noon. By 5/6 p.m., the rain will start to move into the Triad. A low-end severe weather threat is in place for Sunday for the western half of our viewing area, west of Guilford County, for the potential to see damaging winds with any strong/severe storms.Â
Rain chances increase through Sunday evening and into the overnight hours Sunday into Monday morning. Lingering showers will still be possible throughout the day on Monday as a cold front moves through the area. Temperatures will be the warmest in the morning on Monday with many in the mid to upper 60s to start the day. But temperatures will fall throughout the day with many falling into the 50s by Monday evening.Â
Behind Monday’s cold front, skies will be nice and sunny on Tuesday but it’ll be chilly. We’ll start the morning in the low 40s with highs reaching the upper 50s.
With clear skies and light winds overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, we’ll have the potential to see a frost or freeze early Wednesday. Temperatures start in the low 30s Wednesday morning and struggle to reach the low 60s by the afternoon. Skies remain sunny for hump day.
Partly cloudy skies on Thursday with morning lows in the low 40s and highs reaching the upper 60s. Stray showers are possible Thursday with a 15% chance for rain.
Skies remain partly cloudy on Friday with scattered showers possible. We’ll start the morning in the upper 40s and highs reach the mid 60s. Partly cloudy skies remain for the start of the weekend with the potential for stray showers. Temperatures will be in the mid-40s in the morning with highs in the mid-60s by the afternoon. The chance for rain Saturday is 20%.
