MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Cleanup in western North Carolina continues in the months after Helene tore through the mountains in September 2024.
Progress is being made in several areas, including in McDowell County. Those efforts include cleanup at Lake James.
McDowell County’s Emergency Management department shared before-and-after photos to Facebook of the recovery at the lake’s Black Bear Boat Access area, showing it was cleared out. In the before photo, a large pile of debris could be seen sitting on the asphalt of the access area, while the after photo shows it totally cleared, with two pickup trucks parked.
The department said the clearing of the debris is “marking another step forward in our community’s recovery.”
