NEW ORLEANS — President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will travel to New Orleans on Monday, January 6, to meet with families and community members affected by the January 1 terror attack on Bourbon Street.

The White House announced the visit Friday, saying the President and First Lady will grieve with victims’ families and meet with local officials leading the response.

The New Year’s Day attack, now classified as an act of terrorism, left 14 people dead and 35 injured after 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar intentionally drove a truck into a crowd and shot two responding officers. Jabbar was killed at the scene.

President Biden previously addressed the nation following the attack, calling it a “despicable act of violence” and pledging federal support for New Orleans.

Further details on the President and First Lady’s visit are expected to be released in the coming days.
