PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is an Enhanced Fire Risk until 7 p.m. on Tuesday night across the Piedmont. Please avoid burning outdoors and extinguish cigarettes responsibly.
Clouds are increasing across North Carolina on Tuesday morning. Even with mostly cloudy skies, temperatures are expected to warm up nicely this afternoon, reaching the mid-60s for daytime highs. It will be cloudy tonight with lows in the upper-50s.

A powerful storm system is going to affect the morning commute on Wednesday, bringing a severe weather threat to most of the state. In the Triad, there is a Level 2/Slight Risk of severe weather.Â
The primary threats will be from damaging winds and large hail though isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.Â

Winds will be sustained between 20 and 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Timing will be between 6 a.m. in the mountain counties and 10 a.m. in the Triad area. Please stay tuned to FOX8 for full coverage of the severe weather potential.

By Wednesday afternoon, the cold front will be to our east, and the skies will be clearing out. Highs are expected to return to the mid-60s.
In the wake of the storm, blustery conditions and colder temperatures arrive Thursday. We will have partly cloudy skies, highs near 50°, and 15-20 mph sustained winds. Wind gusts near 40 mph are possible.
As the weekend approaches, temperatures are going to warm back up. Enjoy partly cloudy skies Friday with highs near 60°. Saturday brings mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s though a cold front is forecast to cross the state during the day. We will have mostly cloudy skies Sunday and cooler temperatures, topping out in the upper-50s.
Next week is getting off to a great start! We will have sunny skies on Monday with highs in the lower-60s.
