Local law enforcement says the suspect stole a car with a child inside.
HIGH POINT, N.C. — A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a car with a child still inside, according to the High Point Police Department.
On the night of Friday, Aug. 16, officers said they received a report of a kidnapping at the Food Lion on E Fairfield Rd. The caller told officers he’d gone inside a store and left his car running with his three-year-old inside.Â
He said when he came out, someone was driving his car out of the parking lot.Â
Officers found the car abandoned with the child inside, uninjured, about 10 minutes later on SW Cloverleaf Place near Highway 29/70.
Officers found the suspect, 31-year-old Marlo T. Torain, walking in the 400 block of S Main Street at about 9:10 p.m..
Torain was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, abduction of children, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods.
The child’s father received a citation for misdemeanor child abuse and unattended vehicle left running at a public place.
